LOST OUR LEASE!!

Well, we didn't exactly lose our lease, but the Straw Hat Pizza Parlor, where we have been playing for almost 20 years, has closed.
Tuesday, June 16 was our last performance there.

That leaves us without a regular venue.

The Peninsula Banjo Band is still very much IN BUSINESS, but at present we are searching for a new permanent home for our weekly practices and performances.
Can you help us?

On Tuesday June 30 and Tuesday July 7, join us at the:
American Legion   --   Post 419
958 Homestead Road in Santa Clara
We will play from 7:00 - 8:00 PM.

We greatly appreciate the
management and members of Post 419,
for helping us out.

A Quick History of the Peninsula Banjo Band

The PBB was organized in 1963 as the Cupertino Banjo Band. As it grew and attracted members from all over the Peninsula bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay its name was changed to the Peninsula Banjo Band. The band was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1975. Membership varies from 45 - 70 and includes plectrum and tenor banjoists as well as wash tub bass players.

The PBB has performed at many public and private affairs including street festivals, retirement homes, private parties and grand civic occasions. It performed at the anniversary celebration of the Golden Gate Bridge, the reopening of the cable cars, San Francisco’s Black and White ball, Candlestick Park, the Cherry Blossom festivals, Music in the Park in San Jose, the opening of the San Jose Convention Center, special events at the De Young museum and for President Clinton and Vice-president Gore. Most recently, the band performed at the opening ceremony of The Tech museum in San Jose.

The band has been directed for 40 of its 43 years by Charlie Tagawa, a master of the tenor banjo.

For a complete history of the Band, and membership list, read the article written recently for the Peninsula Banjo Band newsletter, the News and Views.

    Venue Search

The PBB is in the process of finding a new home. We will bring our significant fan base to a restaurant, pizza parlor or other venue.

If you have, or know of, a possible venue, with room for a large band, please let us know.

Ideally we would like to play weekly, on Tuesday evenings. We need about 600 square feet of performance area since  we regularly play with 20 - 25 players.  We provide our own  sound system and are well insured. We are a California non-profit, 501-C (3), corporation and have been a fixturre in the Bay Area for 46 years.

If you have, or know of a venue that would like to present  "the happiest music in town"  to its customers, please let us know.
